Thiruvananthapuram: The delegates, who attended the CPM Thiruvananthapuram district conference, hit out at the second Pinarayi Government, saying that the functioning of the present dispensation in the State was not up to the mark. They also made sharp verbal attacks on the offices of the Chief Minister and the ministers.

They recalled that this government was the result of the hard work put up by the ordinary partymen. Those who come to ministers' office should be given minimum respect, they demanded.

The delegates came down heavily on the minister's offices and departments of Home, Industries, Local Administration and Health. The delegates did not even spare the offices of CPI ministers and their departments from criticism.

Prasanth leads attack

V K Prasanth, MLA from Vattiyoorkavu, hit out at the functioning of the second Pinarayi Government by saying that it did not have the speed of the previous regime. The laxity in the ministers' offices was clearly visible.

He also sought a probe into the SC/ST Development fund embezzlement at the Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation. The delegates pointed out that there was a feeling that there was no one responsible in the Chief Minister's office. Whenever, the partymen approached the ministers' offices, the reaction of those responsible for affairs there was as though they had taken up quotations of some people.

In the Industries Department, only influential people have access. In the Health Department, ordinary people get a raw deal, the delegates aired a list of complaints at the conference.

It was pointed out that there was an official domination in the Local Administration Department and nothing was done to arrest it.

Sivankutty, Riyas lauded

The delegates lauded the functioning of Education Minister V Sivan Kutty and PWD Minister Muhammed Riyas. The delegates congratulated district secretary Anavoor Nagappan for the victory made by the party in the last Assembly polls in the district.
But there were criticisms that the defeat in the Kovalam Assembly constituency was not looked into by the party seriously. The anti-women stand prevalent in a section of the party was also taken to task by the delegates.

Handling of K-Rail flayed

The delegates criticised that the leadership failed to convince the people that everything was transparent with regard to the K-Rail project. Attempts should be made to arrest the campaign that the project was meant for corruption.

One of the delegates asked what was the current status of the much touted K-Phone project.

Kodiyeri defends govt

While replying to the criticisms aired at the district conference, CPM State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that it was not fair to compare the nine-month-old present government with the previous Pinarayi Government which completed the full term of five years.

He wanted the partymen to give enough time for the present government and the ministers. He said that the shortcomings in the functioning of the government would be rectified.

Kodiyeri said in the last government's time too, though there were many new faces in the list of ministers, they all performed well. In the same way, the minister in the new dispensation would be successful if given more time.

There are always problems in the police department. It is not new. Since every political party has a presence in Kerala, even RSS men could have found a place in the police, Kodieyri added.
