Kerala records 22,946 Covid cases after 69,373 tests; TPR rises to 33.07%

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 22,946 more COVID-19 cases on Monday even as the state government has imposed strict curbs to contain the virus. The fresh cases were detected after testing 69,373 samples.

The state's latest Test Positivity Rate (TPR) stands at 33.07 per cent.

The state Health Department said the growth rate of new virus cases has shot up by 182 per cent compared to the number of cases reported in the previous week (January 10 and 16).

Covid fatalities reached 50,904, after 54 previously undocumented deaths and 18 recent ones were added to the list, Health Minister Veena George said in a press release.

After 5,280 more recover from the infection, the number of active patients in the state reached 1,21,458. Among them, only 3.7 per cent are admitted to hospitals currently.

The state has reported 54,01,777‬ cases so far. Of them, 52,28,710 recovered.

Out of those found infected, 181 reached the state from outside while 22,179 contracted the disease from their contacts. The source of infection of 442 is yet to be traced. As many as 144 healthworkers also tested positive on Monday.

As of now, a total of 2,41,087 people are under observation across the state. Of them, 2,36,030 are under home or institutional quarantine while 5,057 are in hospitals across the state. A total of 711 people were admitted in hospitals on Sunday.
