Dheeraj murder: One more Youth Congress leader arrested

Idukki: The police probing the murder of SFI activist Dheeraj Rajendran on Wednesday took one more accused into their custody.

Soyimon Sunny, Youth Congress Idukki district general secretary and Kanjikuzhu panchayat member, was detained from his house at Chelachuvad.

The police have arrested seven people, including prime accused Nikhil Paili, for the murder so far.

Seven of them are accused of direct involvement in the crime while one is charged with helping Nikhil Paili flee from the district. Nikhil Paili is the president of Youth Congress Vazhathoppu unit.

The arrested include Youth Congress Idukki constituency vice president Jerin Jojo, KSU district secretary Jithin Uppumakkal and KSU Idukki constituency president Tony.

Dheeraj Rajendran was stabbed to death during a clash between SFI and KSU activists at Government Engineering College, Idukki on January 10 during student union election. Dheeraj was a computer science student and a native of Thaliparamba in Kannur.

Thrissur native Abhijith T Sunil and Kollam native Amal A S had also suffered injuries during the clash.
