Goods train derails at Aluva railway station, four trains cancelled

Aluva: Train services were disrupted through the Aluva route on Friday following the derailment of a goods train at the railway station here resulting in cancellation of 11 trains.

Four bogies of the goods train going towards Kollam derailed while entering the third platform of the Aluva station around 10.30pm on Thursday. No one was injured in the mishap, the railway officials said.

Senior Railway officials rushed to the spot to oversee the traffic restoration process at Aluva. Railway sources said the 42-wagon train which originated from Yerraguntla station in Andhra Pradesh was carrying cement.

Following the incident, several trains were stranded for hours at different stations. However, traffic through one of the tracks was restored around 2 am.

"Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram has rushed to the spot along with senior railway officials, to oversee the restoration of traffic and traffic is partly restored through single line working at 02.20 hrs. Restoration work is in full swing and the traffic is expected to be restored shortly," Railways said in a release.

  • Kottayam-Nilambur express (16326)
  • Nilambur-Kottayam express (16325)
  • Guruvayur-Ernakulam express (06439)
  • Thiruvananthapuram-Tiruchchirappalli Intercity express (22628)
  • Ernakulam-Alapuzha express (06449)
  • Alappuzha-Ernakulam express (06452)
  • Palakkad-Ernakulam MEMU (06797)
  • Ernakulam-Palakkad MEMU (06798)
  • Shoranur-Ernakulam MEMU (06017)

Rajya Rani Express (No 16350) from Nilambur Road to Kochuveli was delayed by 6 hours. The Ernakulam-Pune express (22149), scheduled to depart from Ernakulam Junction at 5.15 am, was also delayed.

The Punalur-Guruvayur express (16328) ended service at Thrippunithura, while Chennai-Guruvayur express (16127) stopped service at Ernakulam.
