Kottayam: Snake rescuer Vava Suresh, who is recovering at the Kottayam Medical College Hospital after being bitten by a cobra at Kurichy near Changanassery, has said that he will catch hold of snakes from next time only after taking all precautionary measures.

Suresh said that he was bitten by a black cobra. Unlike previous snake bites, he could feel that more quantity of poison was entering his body after the Kurichy incident. "I still remember how I was gradually losing my eyesight after the incident. At that point of time, I was scared that I would never come back to life again." Suresh was bitten by the snake when he was trying to put it into a plastic bag.

Suresh is now recuperating at the observation room situated next to the intensive care unit of the Medical College Hospital (MCH). Hospital Superintendent Dr TK Jayakumar said that Suresh had no health issues except mild fever. The doctor said that there was good improvement in his health condition and hoped that he would be discharged from the hospital by Monday.

Suresh acknowledged that he got very good treatment and care at the Kottayam MCH. "I came back to life due to the efforts made by the doctors here. I also came to know that many people had prayed for me. I am indebted to all of them," he said. Cooperation Minister V N Vasavan and Changanassery MLA Job Michael visited Suresh at the hospital and spoke to him.

65 bottles of anti-venom

Vava Suresh was administered 65 bottles of anti-snake venom by the doctors of the Kottayam MCH. This is for the first time that such a huge quantity of anti-snake venom was administered on the body of a snake-bitten person. Usually, 25 bottles of anti-snake venom were given to those bitten by cobras.

The medical board of the MCH decided to inject more bottles of anti-snake venom after no progress was found in Suresh's health after administering 25 bottles on him.

According to doctors, such a huge quantity was administered on Suresh's body because of the presence of a large quantity of snake poison inside his body after the snake-biting incident at Kurichy.
