Thrissur: Train services were restored on the Ernakulam-Thrissur route on Saturday. Trains were allowed to proceed on the repaired tracks at a slow pace.

An engine and five wagons of a goods train had derailed near Puthukkad station on Friday damaging almost 100 metres of railway tracks.

Several train services were cancelled and partially cancelled on Saturday and Friday following the incident.

The accident

The engine and five wagons of a petroleum goods train derailed at 2 pm on Friday en route to Irumpanam. The wagons were empty. The train proceeded at a slow pace due to the repair works. The incident occured an hour after Netravati Express passed through the track. Almost 100 metres of track was damaged in the accident. A goods train has derailed at the same spot 12 years ago.

There were no causalities or injuries to railway staff or public.
