Kochi: The Police Crime Branch has issued a notice to actor Dileep's lawyer B Raman Pillai prior to taking his statement in connection with the case filed over the alleged influencing of a witness in the actress attack case.

A per the case was a person named Nazar influenced the witness in the actress attack case, Jinson, and even threatened him. The Crime Branch wanted to get more clarity on the subject by taking a statement from advocate Raman Pillai.

The inquiry officer, Crime Branch DySP S Amminikuttan, sent the notice to the advocate.

But Raman Pillai sent a reply, saying that the notice was not legally sustainable. But if the inquiry officer desires, he is ready to talk to him on the decided date.

According to Raman Pillai, it is not legal to record his statement in a case that is linked to another case in which he appears for Dileep in the courts.

He said that it would be wise for the police to retract from such a move after taking a cue from the earlier orders passed by the higher courts on the issue.

Conspiracy case

Meanwhile, the third accused in the conspiracy case and Dileep's brother-in-law TN Suraj appeared before the Crime Branch for questioning on Monday in connection with the conspiracy case.

Dileep's brother, who was called by the Crime Branch for questioning on Monday, would appear for the questioning today at the Crime Branch office in Kalamassery.

Meanwhile, retired Kerala High Court judge Kamal Pasha said that the Crime Branch move was unprecedented and foolish.

"The client confidentiality is crucial in any case. If lawyers are summoned for statements, they can even be called as witnesses in the criminal cases. This is unacceptable," he said.
