Dubai: The Dubai Police has initiated a probe into the death of popular Keralite vlogger and album star Rifa Mehnu, 21.
Rifa who is a native of Kakul, Ballusseri in Kozhikode district, was found dead at her residence at Karama in Dubai early Wednesday morning. Her untimely death came as a big shock to her friends and relatives.
Rifa had arrived in UAE two months ago along with her husband, vlogger and album artist Mehnu, 25, who is a native of Puthukai, Kasargod. Their son Asan too was with them.
As Rifa and Asan arrived on a visitor’s visa they returned to Kerala later. About 20 days ago only Rifa returned to the UAE. She left her son with relatives before going back.
Since then, the couple were busy with the production of videos and music albums. Only two days ago the couple posted a video from the world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa. The video was posted on the social media on Monday.
The couple looked very happy and cheerful in the videos that they had posted in the recent days. Mehnu’s friend and photographer Jamshid who is native of Kozhikode, told Manorama online that barring the usual tiffs that couple have, he was not aware of any serious issues between the two.
Mehnu had a dinner invite outside on Tuesday night. Since Rifa was feeling tired after day’s work in office, she didn’t accompany her husband.
As Mehnu returned at 1.30 am from dinner he was shocked to find Rifa’s body hanging from the ceiling.
Mehnu broke the news on Rifa’s tragic death first on social media. That’s how the world came to know about the tragic news. Another person had shared Mehnu’s post.
The body will be brought to Kerala after completing the required legal proceedings.
Both met, liked each other and with the consent of their respective families got married four years ago. Rifa earned a good income from YouTube videos. Most of the major videos that she posted were related to fashion, introducing food items cooked in various restaurants and travel.
Rifa who had account on various social media, was followed by lakhs. Mehnu on the other hand was engaged in production of music albums.
On February 14, the couple had released a short film to mark their marriage anniversary. Both used to often say that the reason behind their beauty was their deep love and bonding.
Meanwhile there was widespread criticism on the manner in which the death was reported through a post on social media.
