Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Government official who was arrested by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau for reportedly seeking sexual favours from a teacher in order to rectify certain anomalies in her Provident Fund (PF) record has been suspended from service.

The official, C R Vinoy Chandran (42), a junior state nodal officer for Government Aided Institutions Provident Fund (GAIN PF) is attached to the District Education Office, Kasaragod.

When the teacher contacted him over phone for correcting some issues in her PF account, he sent her indecent messages. He also asked her to reach a hotel room in Kottayam as a reward for solving the matter, following which she alerted the Vigilance.

Vinoy checked in at a Kottayam hotel on March 10 and Vigilance officers waited in the adjacent room. As Vinoy had also asked the teacher to bring a new shirt for him, the Vigilance gave her a shirt coated with phenolphthalein. He was subsequently arrested red-handed.

Meanwhile, the government said that Vinoy was suspended for engaging in gross misconduct and violation of rules. The Vigilance said that an investigation on whether he had made similar attempts earlier is underway.

A native of Kannur, Vinoy has also been expelled from the CPM-affiliated NGO union of which he was a member.
