Thiruvananthapuram: Providing some respite from the sweltering heat, parts of Kerala may get light summer showers from Tuesday.
According to the Indian Meteorology Department (IMD), Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Ernakulam districts are likely to witness rainfall from Tuesday to Saturday.
IMD Director Dr S Santhosh stated that districts between Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam may see light rainfall on March 18.
Turning up the heat
The State might experience its harshest summer till date, with temperatures in many parts of Kerala likely to go up by two degrees. On Monday, Punalur in Kollam recorded a temperature of 38.8 degree Celsius, which was the highest in the State, followed by Vellanikkara in Thrissur at 38.6 degree Celsius. Other districts registered temperatures between 35 and 38 degree Celsius.
The IMD has warned of a heatwave in Kollam, Kozhikode, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur and Kannur this week. Meanwhile, light rainfall can be expected in parts of the State till the end of this month.
