Two rape victims die in Haryana after four men force them to consume insecticide

Changanassery: In a shocking incident reported from a village in Kottayam district, a man barged into a house and brutally attacked a young woman in broad daylight. The woman, who sustained injuries, has been admitted to the hospital.

A 38-year-old has been arrested over the incident. Police suspect a rape attempt by the man identified as Anish, a native of Thrikkodithanam, near Paippad.

A native of Paippad, near Changanassery, the woman came under attack around 12 noon on Thursday, when she was alone. Her husband had gone to work and his parents had went out.

The woman was doing the laundry at the work area of the house, when she heard the calling bell ring. Assuming that her in-laws had returned, she opened the door. But on finding a stranger, she closed the door and returned to the work area.

As she continued to work, the assailant came up from behind and covered the woman's face. The woman managed to free herself, ran indoors and tried to close the door. But he forced open the door and hit her on the face.

The woman then tried to run outside, but he kicked her in the stomach, slammed her head on the wall and hit her on the chest, according to the police. By then, the woman lost consciousness.

When her family returned, they found the woman in a battered condition and her clothes torn. An attempt had also been made to snatch her chain.

The Thrikkodithanam police have registered a case and have recorded the woman's statements. One person has reportedly been detained in connection with the incident.

Deputy Superintendent of Police R Sreekumar said further action will be taken on the basis of the medical test reports.
