Rev. Fr. Thomas J Netto was ordained as the Archbishop of the Latin Archdiocese of Trivandrum here on Saturday.

The episcopal ordination ceremony was held at St Sebastian's Ground at Chreuvettukadu.

The archdiocese's apostolic administrator and Emeritus Archbishop, Dr M Soosa Pakiam was the main celebrant on the occasion.

Archbishop Leo Paul do Jirali, Vatican's Ambassador to India and Mar Baselios Cleemis, Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church delivered messages during the ceremony.

The function began with the official proclamation from Rome.

Thereafter, the 'Laying on of Hands' ceremony was held followed by the Prayer of Ordination. Later, the archbishop was anointed with the oil of sacred chrism, ring placed on his finger, the mitre on his head, and given the pastoral staff.

Pope Francis had appointed Rev Netto as the archbishop following the retirement of Rev Dr Soosa Pakiam.

Rev Netto was born on December 29, 1964, in Puthiyathura in the Archdiocese of Trivandrum, and was ordained a priest on December 19, 1989.
