Bengaluru: A 36-year-old Keralite journalist was found dead in her Bengaluru flat on Thursday.

Kasaragod native N Shruthi, who worked at international news agency Reuters, was found hanging at her flat Nallurhalli Mayfair near White Field in Bengaluru.

Shruti's family has alleged that she ended her life because of the severe physical and mental abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband Anish Koyadan, a native of Taliparamba in Kannur.

The police have also found a suicide note that said the death was due to her husband's torture. The Bengaluru City Police have filed a case against Anish, a software engineer in the city.

According to Shruti's relatives, Anish claimed that he was at his native place when the police rang him up. When asked about his wife, he reportedly said that she was with him.

Shruthi's brother Nishanth said that Anish monitored her through a camera and voice recorder at their residence.

“He even tried to smother her with a pillow and gave her wine laced with drugs,” the brother alleged.

Shruthi's brother Nishanth is also an engineer at a private firm in Bengaluru.

A native of Kasaragod, Shruthi got married to Anish in 2017. Her brother alleged that Anish began ill-treating her a few days into their marriage.

"Shruthi opened up about the abuse only after four years of marriage. Anish used to brutally abuse her demanding money.”

“Our parents were exposed to Anish's personality only recently when they visited Bengaluru for an eye surgery.”

“He asked her not to contact our parents or me. He was suspicious that Shruthi was giving her salary to us. He installed a camera and voice recorder at their home to check on her," Nishanth said.

Shruthi is the daughter of retired teachers B Sathyabhama and Narayanan, also a writer. After the autopsy in Bengaluru, the body was taken to her native place and the funeral was held at a crematorium in Kasaragod.
