Film organisations agree to set up internal complaints committees at Kerala Women's Commission sitting

Malayalam film organisations Saturday assured the Kerala Women's Commission that it will set up internal complaints committees (ICC) in the industry.

The Commission in turn agreed to offer online training for constituting the ICC, the purpose of which is to deal with complaints of sexual harassment in the industry.

The decisions were taken at a sitting chaired by the Commission's chairperson P Sathidevi that had representatives of WCC (Women in Cinema Collective), the petitioners.

Film organisations such as MACTA (Malayalam Cine Technicians Association), Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce, AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists), FEFKA (Film Employees Federation of Kerala) and Producers' Association also attended.

The film organisation told the Commission that ICC will be set up in all production units at the time of registration.

WCC had contended that ICCs that were made mandatory as per the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act of 2013 were nonexistent in the Malayalam film industry.

The Commission informed the film organisations to also formulate a monitoring committee comprising representatives of all organisations in the industry. The organisations have agreed to comply.
