Manjeri League councillor succumbs to injuries sustained in attack following dispute over parking

Manjeri Municipality Councillor Abdul Jaleel (52) succumbed to injuries from an attack by a group of youths allegedly following a dispute over parking slots.

One of the accused, Abdul Majeed, has been arrested. Another accused, Shuhaib, is yet to be traced.

Jaleel, who is an active member of the Muslim League and the councillor of the municipality's 16th ward breathed his last a private hospital at Perinthalmanna.

The attack took place by 10.30 pm Tuesday. According to reports, Jaleel and three friends had an argument with some youths over parking.

The youngsters followed the car and forced it to stop by breaking the back glass with a helmet. It is alleged that the two youths on the bike hacked Jaleel and friends with knives and other weapons.

Jaleel had sustained deep wounds behind his head and was rushed to a hospital, where he died.
