Alappuzha: A man died after a speeding car rammed into a bus at Kalavoor here on Tuesday.

The deceased is Bijumon (50), a native of Thiruvambadi who was working as a lineman with the KSEB.

His wife Rathi Mol and two children suffered injuries. One of them has been rushed to a private hospital in Kochi.

The mishap occurred around 11.30 am at Bernard Junction near the All India Radio station in Kalavoor.

The car was going towards Alappuzha from Cherthala, while the private bus was coming in the opposite direction.

The car was completely mangled due to collision impact. Bijumon, who was driving the car, became trapped inside the vehicle. He was taken out after cutting open the front portion of the car.

“It’s too early to ascertain what caused the accident. We’ve collected CCTV footage which shows the vehicle overtaking another car and heading straight to the bus. There is a chance that the driver might have dozed off. However, nothing conclusive can be said now,” sources said.

Though the accident caused a huge traffic snarl, it was restored back to normal after about an hour, police said.

Further probe is on.
