Kochi: Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan on Tuesday levelled serious allegations against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the state's health department. He said the CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General) report of the Medical Services Corporation, which stated there was grave laxity in the quality control of medicines provided in the state, was shocking.
"Some companies' drugs have not even been tested. The government is busy extorting money even when people's lives are on the line," alleged Satheesan.
Speaking at a press meet here, he accused the CM and Health Minister Veena George of permitting purchases. "Expired medicines were distributed to 26 hospitals. Around 1,610 batches of medicines have not met the expiry date regulations," he said.
Satheesan demanded an impartial investigation into the incident. He also alleged there was a mystery in the fire at the Medical Services Corporation.
The opposition leader asked the chief minister to clarify whether the Directorate of Enforcement has probed the monthly payment controversy involving his daughter Veena Vijayan. "What happened between CMRL and Exalogic was a black money deal. The CM spends Rs 6,67,260 on social media management. This is the government's money. Around 12 people have been appointed to manage his social media handles. However, not more than 20 posts are published every month," alleged Satheesan.
