3 Malayalis killed, 18 injured in bus-car collision in Theni

Kottayam: Three people from Kerala were killed and 18 others injured after a tourist bus collided with a car at Periyakulam, Theni, here on Saturday morning. The deceased were residents of Govindapuram colony and Nambuserry colony in Kuravilangad panchayat. They were identified as Sonimon, 45, Kanjirathumkuzhhiyil, Govindapuram colony, Jain Thomas, 33 and Jobin Thomas, 33, Ambalathunkal, Nambuserry colony. Shaji P D, also a resident of Govindapuram colony was injured in the accident and has been admitted to Theni Government Medical college. His condition is reported to be critical.
All of them were neighbours and friends. Jobin Thomas reportedly drove the car. The news of the accident left the residents of the colony shattered. " They were a closely-knit group. We came to know about the accident early in the morning. A group has left for Theni for further procedure," said Rema Raju, ward member, Govindapuram
Shaji P D is employed as a mason. Jobin Thomas was a driver. The bus was en route to Yercaud. The condition of passengers in the bus who were injured in the accident is reported to be stable.
