Dindigul/Kozhikode: Two Malayali women died, and ten others, including three children, sustained injuries after their car crashed into a barricade on a bridge along the national highway at Natham, Tamil Nadu's Dindigul district.
The deceased - Parachalil Sobhana (62) and Sobha (52) – were sisters-in-law from Janakeeyamukku, Meppayyur, Kozhikode.
Among the injured are Sobha's daughter, Ashwathi Krishna; son-in-law, Mithun Raj; twin granddaughters, Ivani and Isani; son, Shebin; and daughter-in-law, Anjali. Others injured include Shimani, Ajitha, Unnikrishnan, and Arundathi.
The family was reportedly travelling to Trichy, where Raj was employed. He had recently been transferred to Kerala, and the trip was intended to bring his belongings back home. Ashwathi and her kids lived in Trichy with Raj, while Sobha occasionally visited to help look after the children.
The accident happened while the group was returning from a visit to the Madurai Meenakshi Temple. The mortal remains of the deceased are currently at a government hospital in Natham.
"Their relatives have already left for Dindigul, and we are awaiting more details," Meppayyur panchayat president KT Rajan told Onmanorama.
