Ahmedabad: A Malayali couple from Alappuzha and their driver were killed in an accident on Tuesday in Ahmedabad when the taxi they were travelling in collided with a truck.

The deceased are OB Vasudevan of Thuravur in Alappuzha and his wife Yamini, a college professor. The taxi driver has not yet been identified.

The accident took place at Mittappur, near Dwarka.

Before taking an early retirement and settling in Alappuzha, Vasudevan was an Indian Railways officer at Rail Bhawan in Delhi. He and his wife had gone to Delhi to see off their daughter, who is settled in the US.

From Delhi, they went to Ahmedabad to visit the Dwaraka temple, a person close to the family said. "They were returning to their hotel after praying at Dwarka temple when the taxi they were travelling in rammed into a truck on the National Highway. Vasudevan died on the spot. His wife and taxi driver succumbed to injuries in the hospital," the person said.
