Malappuram: Abdul Vahid (25) Morayur, Malappuram, has been taken into custody in connection with the suicide of his 19-year-old wife Shahana Mumthas. She was found hanging at her house in Kondotty last Tuesday. 

He was apprehended at Kannur Airport on Monday on his return from the Middle East, where he had been working.

Shahana was found hanging from the ceiling of her room at her residence near Kondotty on January 14. Her family alleged the mental torture and verbal abuse from her husband and his relatives led her to take the extreme step. She, a first-year degree student at a private college, was married to Vahid on May 27, 2024. 

According to Shahana’s family, Vahid allegedly harassed her about her appearance and complexion. Just 20 days after the wedding, Vahid left for the Middle East, leaving Shahana to face harassment from his family members.
