A Malayali businessman was attacked by a gang of four masked men on Monday, who intercepted his car on the outskirts of Mysuru, assaulted him, and stole his cash bag. The attackers fled the scene in the businessman’s vehicle, reported PTI.
Surveillance footage captured the incident, showing the culprits dragging the businessman out of his car and pushing him away. The attack occurred around 9.15 am at Harohalli village near Jayapura Hobli in Mysuru taluk. According to the police, the gang, allegedly using two vehicles, blocked the businessman’s car to carry out the robbery.
The victim, identified as Ashraf, escaped without injuries, while his driver, Sufi, sustained a hand injury during the assault, said a senior police official. In his complaint, Ashraf revealed he was travelling from Sulthan Bathery to HD Kote with Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, intended as an advance payment for purchasing areca nuts.
''The suspects allegedly assaulted and threatened the occupants of the car with knives, forcefully removed them from the vehicle, and fled with both the car and the cash bag,'' the officer stated. A case of dacoity has been registered under applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and special teams have been deployed to track down the culprits, the officer confirmed.
Investigators are also probing whether more individuals were involved in the robbery. Police are reviewing video evidence from the scene to identify the perpetrators. This incident occurred just days after bike-borne robbers fatally shot two security guards and escaped with Rs 93 lakh in cash meant for replenishing an ATM in Bidar.
