Sulthan Bathery: The police team probing the Wayanad bribe-for-job scam completed the interrogation of Wayanad District Congress Committee President N D Appachan and former treasurer KK Gopinathan, who are listed as accused in the case here on Wednesday. Crime Branch officials and Sulthan Bathery DySP Abdul Shereef were part of the team that questioned the accused. The police also registered their arrest on Wednesday, and they were released on bail.
The arrest was registered on the third day of the leaders' interrogation. Meanwhile, IC Balakrishnan MLA will appear before the investigation team for the interrogation on Thursday. The investigation team raided the DCC office at Kalpetta and gathered evidence from the house of KK Gopinathan.
The suicide of NM Vijayan and son Jijesh has triggered a political controversy in the district as CPM unleashed a campaign against Congress alleging corruption against IC Balakrishnan MLA and other Congress leaders.
Adv T M Rasheed, the counsel of IC Balakrishnan, said that the police would register his statement and release him on bail. "It is part of the investigation procedure," he said, adding that the allegations were politically motivated and that there is no evidence linking the leader to the corruption charges.
