Thiruvananthapuram: Amid the investigation into the death of two-year-old Devendhu in Balaramapuram, police have arrested the child’s mother, Sreethu, in connection with a cheating case. Authorities stated that she was booked for cheating and forgery based on a complaint filed by a man named Shiju.
Sreethu, a temporary employee with the Devaswom Board, allegedly posed as a senior official to deceive the complainant. Speaking to the media, Thiruvananthapuram Rural SP confirmed that police have gathered evidence to substantiate the charges against her.
She is accused of swindling ₹10 lakh from the complainant by falsely promising him a driver’s job at the Devaswom Board. To make the offer appear legitimate, she reportedly created a fake appointment order.
According to Manorama News, police have received around 10 complaints against Sreethu, but so far, an FIR has been registered in only one case.
Meanwhile, police have not yet confirmed her involvement in her child’s murder.
Devendhu, the daughter of Sreejith and Sreethu, was found dead in a well near her house on January 30. Police have arrested the child’s maternal uncle, Harikumar, on murder charges. According to investigators, he threw the sleeping child into the well out of personal resentment toward his sister. Although he has confessed to the crime, the probe team is still examining inconsistencies in his statements.
Police will seek Harikumar’s custody in court on Monday for further interrogation, which will be conducted in the presence of a psychiatrist.
