Idukki police probing the murder of notorious goon Sajan Samuel have taken five people in custody. There are seven suspects in the case and cops are probing the involvement of two more people in the crime.
The police said that Sajan was tortured before he was hacked to death. The gang had wrapped his body in a mat and dumped the body at Moolamattom in an auto. They reportedly told the auto driver that they were carrying pig waste. The suspects have criminal antecedents and have cases registered in various police stations.
The suspects severed his left hand, stuffed cloth in his mouth, wound his abdomen tightly with a rope and inflicted deep incisions on his head and arms. The police have learnt that Sajan was killed by a group of people with whom he maintained a close association. He used to visit their room regularly and would have drinks with them.
Of late, a disagreement ensued during one such gathering and Sajan allegedly threatened to kill them. The police are probing the cause of the altercation. "We believe the murder was premeditated. There are brutal signs of torture on his body. We need to find out the motive and where exactly he was murdered," said a police official associated with the probe.
His body was found in a partially decomposed state in a bushy area near KSEB Moolamattom colony on Sunday. The body was two days old and was infested with worms, police said. Sajan is an accused in a murder case at Kothamangalam in 2018. He also had many cases registered against him in various districts and was slapped with provisions under the Goonda Act.
