Palakkad: Chenthamara, the accused in the Nenmara double murder case, told police on Tuesday that he fled to the nearby hills after committing the crime. He stated that he hid in the Mattai forest area of Pothundy and decided to remain there after noticing the arrival of police and a local search party, Manorama News reported.
The evidence collection, conducted under heavy security, lasted for nearly 45 minutes. Following this, the investigation team returned to the Alathur DySP office with the accused. Alathur DySP N Muralidharan stated that the evidence collection process would also include taking Chenthamara to the location where he procured the weapon.
Chenthamara was remanded to police custody from 12 pm on Tuesday until 3 pm on Wednesday. He will undergo further questioning until his custody period ends.
The accused was brought to the Alathur court from Viyyur High-Security Prison under strict security arrangements in the morning. A total of 373 police personnel, including three DySPs and 11 Circle Inspectors, were deployed for security. Additional measures such as drones and tracker dogs were also in place.
Chenthamara was arrested last Wednesday for murdering his neighbour, Sudhakaran (50), and Sudhakaran’s mother, Lakshmi (68). He was apprehended while attempting to return home for dinner. Last week, Chenthamara told the court that he should be punished for 100 years for his crime. He also stated that he does not want to be released from prison, as he cannot face his daughter, an engineer, and his son-in-law.
According to the remand report submitted last week, police revealed that Chenthamara was satisfied that his plan had succeeded and had executed the murders with meticulous planning.
The report also stated that the crime stemmed from his enmity with Sudhakaran and Lakshmi. Chenthamara was previously arrested in 2019 and sentenced to jail for murdering Sudhakaran’s wife, Sajitha. He was out on bail at the time of the recent killings.
