Kannur: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan took a tough stance towards former District Panchayat President P P Divya, preventing her from returning to leadership roles in the party. The position taken at the Kannur district conference was that Divya's lapse could not be justified by any means.

Currently an ordinary member of the party and out on bail after being arrested on charges of abetment to the suicide of former Kannur ADM Naveen Babu, Divya was not a delegate at the district conference.

Incidentally, the ADM's death was a major topic of discussion at CPM's district conferences, especially in Kannur, Pathanamthitta, and Kozhikode. Some members said that the party's disciplinary action against Divya was 'hasty.'

In his speech at the Kannur conference and in other districts, the Chief Minister said that Divya spoke inappropriately at the farewell meeting and did not act like a responsible party cadre. He added that action would be taken against lapses, and those subject to such measures could return to party posts only if corrections were made.

The Chief Minister further said that the party decision against Divya was proper. Divya could have taken various official measures against the ADM as district panchayat president. Instead, she organised for the event to be broadcast by negotiating a deal with a television channel, which he described as a significant mistake.

CPM's Kannur district secretary M V Jayarajan also confirmed to the media that the party's position on Divya has been consistent. He said that the comments in the last section of Divya's speech at the farewell meeting had led to the death of the ADM and those words were offensive.
