Thrissur: A man and a woman were killed after a lorry ran over them at Kuthiran in Thrissur on Sunday night. The deceased have been identified as Masin Abbas (36) from Kaloor, Ernakulam, and his pillion rider Vidya Vijayan (38) of Nooranad, Padanilam, Alappuzha.

The accident occurred around 9 pm on the Vazhukkumpara bridge, near the Kuthiran tunnel on the Palakkad–Thrissur highway. Both victims died on the spot.

According to police, the tragedy happened when the rider’s helmet fell from the moving bike. As they stopped to retrieve it, a lorry approaching from behind hit the bike and ran over both of them, crushing part of the vehicle and the two passengers beneath its wheels.

Rescue operations were carried out with the help of a National Highway Authority crane, and the bodies were recovered by moving the lorry. However, both victims had already succumbed to their injuries by the time they were pulled out.
