Malappuram: A 64-year-old man allegedly involved in over 50 theft cases was arrested by Perinthalmanna police for a string of shop burglaries in Angadippuram. The accused, Vinod alias Benny, a native of Punkunnam in Thrissur, was apprehended while attempting to flee from Palakkad to Gudalur.

The arrest followed complaints filed in June about thefts at a vegetable shop and a medical store in Angadippuram, where cash was stolen after locks were broken. A special investigation team led by DYSP A Premjith and CI Sumesh Sudhakaran examined CCTV footage from surrounding areas and identified Vinod as the suspect.

Known for targeting shops across Palakkad, Thrissur, Malappuram, and Gudalur, Vinod would break in at night and escape on long-distance buses. Despite being out on bail for similar offences across multiple districts, he continued burglary.

He was arrested by a team led by CI Sumesh Sudhakaran and SI Shijo C Thankachan, along with officers Ayyub, Salman, Prajeesh, and D4S (District Anti-Narcotics Squad) members.
