Kochi: The city police on Wednesday arrested a railway travelling ticket examiner and seized 2.63gm of MDMA and 3.76gm of hashish oil. Akhil Joseph (35) of Changampuzha Road near Edappally was arrested near Bolgatty Palace. He was nabbed by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) led by ACP K A Abdul Salam.
Police sources said Akhil was under the anti-narcotics cell's radar for the past eight months after a complaint was registered against him on the police's Yodhav alert number. The police sources said Akhil got the railway job on a compassionate appointment after his father died while in service. The police suspect that he is a major drug peddler in the city.
Kerala Police launched the 'Yodhav' project to fight drug use in the state. If drug use or marketing is noticed, this information can be reported to Yodhav's WhatsApp number 9995966666 as a text message, photo, video, or voice message.
