Kollam: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the electrocution death of a student at a school in Kollam. Commission member V Geetha has asked the Director of Public Education and the Kollam Rural District Police Chief to conduct a detailed investigation and submit a report within 14 days. The directive follows media reports on the incident.

The deceased, Mithun (13), was a Class 8 student at Thevalakkara Boys' School. The tragic incident happened on Thursday morning while he was playing with friends. His slipper had fallen onto the roof of the school’s cycle shed, and he was electrocuted while climbing up to retrieve it, accidentally coming into contact with a power line. Mithun was immediately taken to the nearby taluk hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
