Kozhikode: An elderly woman who went missing from her house on Saturday morning was found dead in a river at Mukkom here. Her body was reportedly found floating in the Iruvazhinji River, said Mukkom police.

The deceased is Komullakandy Ayisha (72), wife of Unnimoyi Komullakandy, from Thottathinkadavu, near Thiruvambadi, Kozhikode. Mukkom Fire and Rescue personnel recovered her body from the Agastiamuzhi area of the river.

According to police, Ayisha left her home around 7 am on Saturday after informing her family that she was going to a nearby shop. When she did not return, her family members began searching for her and filed a complaint with the Mukkom police.

During the search, some natives noticed a body floating in the river. Later, Ayisha's relatives identified the body. The mortal remains are currently kept at Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
