Nipah in Kerala: 571 on contact list; 27 under highest risk category

Thiruvananthapuram: A total of 571 individuals are currently on the Nipah virus contact list across various districts in Kerala, Health Minister Veena George said on Sunday. The highest number is in Palakkad with 418 people, followed by 89 in Kozhikode, 62 in Malappuram, and one each in Ernakulam and Thrissur.
In Malappuram, 13 people remain under isolation, while one person in Palakkad is also receiving treatment in isolation. Ten individuals have been removed from the contact list after completing their isolation period — including one from Malappuram, two from Palakkad, and seven from Kozhikode.
Statewide, 27 individuals are under observation in the highest risk category, while 78 are being monitored as high-risk contacts.
A high-level review meeting chaired by Minister Veena George was held on Sunday to assess the situation. The meeting was attended by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department, NHM State Mission Director, Directors of Health Services and Medical Education, Additional Directors, District Collectors, Medical Officers, police officials, and representatives from various other departments.
