Peralassery: Works on the Keezhahoor concrete bridge, which connects the Vengad and Peralassery panchayats, have entered its final phase. The concrete bridge, under construction across the Ancharakkandi river, runs parallel to the existing hanging bridge that links Pallyam in Peralassery to Keezhathoor in Vengad.
An amount of Rs.12.2 crore was allocated for the bridge’s construction in the 2018–19 state budget. Built on 41.72 cents of private land, the bridge will have a total length of 205.45 metres and a width of 10.40 metres, along with 1.20-metre-wide footpaths on both sides.
The foundation and piling works have already been completed and slab works are currently in progress. Construction of the boat jetty adjacent to the bridge and the parallel road connecting the Anjarakkandi–Mambaram road to the new bridge is also nearing completion.
The project is being executed by KK Builders, Peravoor. Once the new concrete bridge becomes operational, travel time and distance between the Peralassery and Vengad panchayats will be significantly reduced. It will also provide smoother access from Peralassery to Kannur International Airport and is expected to ease the traffic congestion in Mambaram town to a great extent.
