Kochi: An electric scooter owned by the family of V B Shefeeq, a ward member of Kunnukara Panchayat, was completely gutted in a fire while being charged. The incident occurred around 10 pm on Wednesday. The scooter, used by Shefeeq’s father, Vallelil Bavakunju of Aduvassery, was parked in the car porch and connected to its charger at the time. The family noticed the fire just as they were stepping out of the house before going to bed. Although they tried to douse the flames, to no avail. 

Two motorcycles were also parked nearby, but the family managed to move them to safety before the flames could spread. The fire is suspected to have been caused by a battery short circuit.
