Kochi: An 18-year-old college student was killed in a scooter–bus collision on Saturday. The deceased, Govind S Shenoy, was a first-year student at Sacred Heart College, Thevara. A private bus rammed into the rear of the scooter he was riding.

Govind lived on T D Road in Ernakulam, opposite S S Kalamandir. He was returning home after attending a morning bhajan at the Punnaykkal Raghavendra Swami Math near Elamakkara when the incident occurred near the Ernakulam Town Hall. A private bus on the Ernakulam–Eloor route hit his scooter from behind, throwing him off the vehicle.

Though he was rushed to a nearby private hospital, he could not be saved. The bus driver fled the scene but was later taken into police custody. Preliminary reports suggest that the bus was speeding at the time of the crash.

Govind, a mridangam player, had joined SH College this year after completing his Plus Two in commerce at Bhavans.
