Malappuram: A student was electrocuted after coming into contact with a snapped power line in Vengara in Malappuram district on Sunday. The deceased is Pullat Abdul Wadood (18), a resident of Achanambalam in Kannamangalam panchayat.

The incident occurred near the Vettathodu stream in Vengara, where Wadood had gone for a swim.

During heavy rain, a live wire had snapped and fallen near the stream. Wadood, who was swimming with his friends, received the fatal electric shock while attempting to climb ashore after swimming downstream. The electric cable had fallen across a nearby plot and was in contact with one side of the stream.

Wadood sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital immediately, but his life could not be saved. His body is currently at Tirurangadi Taluk Hospital and will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem.
