Mulangunnathukavu: Attacks on postgraduate doctors on duty at the emergency department of the Thrissur Medical College Hospital are becoming alarmingly frequent. The latest incident occurred yesterday, when a junior woman doctor was assaulted inside the Trauma Care ICU.
Just a month ago, a patient undergoing treatment for a mental health condition turned violent and attacked a doctor. Three months earlier, a young man broke into the room allotted for women doctors and attempted to assault those present. Doctors, including those working in the ICU, now face serious threats to their safety.
Taking serious note of the recurring incidents, the Medical PG Association Thrissur Unit, along with the college union, staged a protest and held a public meeting here on Monday. The demonstrators raised several demands, including immediate measures to ensure doctors’ safety at the workplace and the prompt arrest of those who insult or assault medical professionals.
Speakers at the event included PG Association state vice-president Dr M A Jubil Dev, Dr Rumana, B R Aravind and Sajin John, among others.
