Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Health Minister Veena George has raised fresh allegations against Dr Haris Chirakkal, Head of the Urology Department at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. The Minister revealed that a subcommittee had found surgical equipment under the Urology Department to be missing.

The missing equipment was purchased using the development fund of Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor. It reportedly went missing from the department while under the supervision of Dr Haris. The issue had not been identified earlier and was found during a subcommittee review.

Minister Veena George stated that a departmental inquiry is underway regarding the missing equipment. If the inquiry fails to yield conclusive findings, the matter will be handed over to the police for further investigation.

The missing equipment is reportedly an oscilloscope worth around ₹20 lakh, allocated from the MP’s development fund. The expert committee report also suggests that some equipment in the Urology Department was deliberately damaged. The Health Department is currently preparing an estimate of the equipment.

Meanwhile, Minister Veena George clarified that seeking an explanation from Dr Haris is part of the standard procedure. She emphasised that the show-cause notice was issued based on the code of conduct and is purely a procedural action.
