Kochi: Rapper Hiran Das Murali, popularly known as Vedan, has approached the Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail in a rape case filed by a young doctor. The complaint, registered by the Thrikkakkara police, accuses Vedan of repeatedly assaulting her over two years under the false promise of marriage.
According to the complaint, the first assault occurred in August 2021 when Vedan visited the woman’s flat in Kozhikode to discuss a Facebook post about him. Despite the incident, she continued the relationship after he promised to marry her. She also alleged that Vedan used drugs during several of the encounters.
The survivor stated that their relationship lasted over two years and ended abruptly in mid-2023, when Vedan called her “toxic” for objecting to his involvement with other women. She also detailed financial support she extended to him during this period, including expenses related to his music career. The survivor said their relationship was known within the music industry.
She cited mental distress and fear of social stigma as reasons for the delay in filing the complaint. Her confidential statement has been recorded by the Ernakulam First Class Judicial Magistrate Court. The bail plea is scheduled to be heard on Friday.
