Sreenarayanapuram: Authorities are exploring the scope of building an underpass near the Sahib Mosque at Sreenarayanapuram panchayat in NH 66. A team of officials from the National Highway Authority of India will visit the proposed spot following frequent demands from the local residents and elected representatives.

In the first stage, district collector Arjun Pandian spoke with the residents in the locality. ET Taison MLA had raised this issue at the district development samiti’s meeting as well as the MLA meet convened by the Chief Minister. The collector visited the spot following this.

The MLA and the panchayat had filed a suit highlighting the travel concerns of the public who regularly use this route to reach panchayat office, proposed mini civil station, Muhammad Abdu Rahman Sahib Memorial Higher Secondary School and the Ayurvedic hospital.

Plot has been allotted for the proposed mini civil station on the east side of Pallinada Road. Fund too has been allowed for the construction of the mini civil station. Meanwhile, the MLA stated that the district collector and the team of officials have understood the inconvenience that the public would have to suffer if the National Highway is constructed without the underpass.

ET Taison MLA, panchayat president MS Mohanan, elected representatives, deputy collector K Reva, tehsildar M Sreenivas, deputy tehsildar KM Rasiya, village officer AK Abdul Khader and NH licencing officer KB Babu accompanied the district collector.
