Sagging overhead wires spark safety concerns in three panchayats in Kochi

Alangad: Low-hanging cables that dangle carelessly and dangerously from electric poles on roadsides are posing a serious threat to commuters. There have been increasing complaints that large vehicles often get entangled in these cables , causing disruptions and accidents.
The problem is particularly severe in various stretches of major roads and pocket roads across Alangad, Kottuvalli and Karumaloor panchayaths. In recent months, several incidents have been reported where vehicles, especially larger ones, got caught in these sagging cables, resulting in the snapping of wires and creating hazardous situations for road users.
These cables often hang dangerously not very far from the road surface, especially along the edges, making it difficult for heavy vehicles to pass without obstruction. Most of these accidents tend to occur at night, especially when container trucks use these routes. Residents’ associations have raised strong concerns and called for immediate action to rectify the situation.
