Kottayam: Two women were killed when an overspeeding car rammed into two scooters near Mundankal church in Pala here on Tuesday. The deceased are Jomol (35) and Dhanya (38). Jomol's daughter Annamol suffered serious injuries and is admitted to a private hospital in Pala. 

The incident happened at 9.30 am on the Pala-Thodupuzha highway. The speeding car collided with two scooters before crashing into a wall. The vehicle was being driven by four BEd students from Pala TTI who were on their way to college.

"The car was overspeeding, and it was raining heavily at the time. Speed was the primary cause of the accident," said an officer from the Pala Police Station. Police added that a case will be registered against the students involved.

Jomol was on her way to drop her daughter Annamol, a sixth-grade student, at St Mary's School when the incident occurred. Dhanya, an employee at a private bank, was on her way to work. 

Dhanya is survived by her husband Santhosh from Nallamkuzhi, Melukavu and her children Sreenandan and Shreehari. Jomol is the wife of Sunil from Palakkuzhakkunnel in Pravithanam, Pala.
