Kattakambal: The Pakalveedu, a community space project by the Kattakambal Panchayat is finally opening its doors. Constructed in the Kaniyambra ward, the project was inaugurated during the final days of the previous panchayat council five years ago.
The Pakalveedu was envisioned as a daytime shelter and communal space for elderly people who are often left alone at home. However, it remained non-functional due to the lack of basic facilities. The current panchayat council has now constructed a new hall adjacent to the Pakalveedu.
Panchayat President E S Reshma said a project has been designed to provide the necessary furniture and caretaker services for the Pakalveedu. She also inaugurated the newly constructed hall adjacent to it.
Block Panchayat Member S Manikandan, Panchayat Members M S Manikandan, Bindu Manoharan, K A Sindhu, Prameela Rajan, Health Inspector K Jayasree, and others spoke on the occasion. Various health check-ups were also conducted under the leadership of the Kottoil Block Panchayat Family Health Centre.
Congress ward members M S Manikandan and Prameela Rajan demanded that regular health check-up facilities be ensured for the elderly at the Pakalveedu.
