Keralites stranded in Uttarakhand after landslides rescued; moved to Uttarkashi by air

A group of 28 Kerala natives stranded in Uttarakhand following a massive landslide were airlifted to Uttarkashi on Friday. They were moved from Bhaironghati near Gangotri, where they had been camping after the disaster struck.
The group will be further transported to the state capital, Dehradun, either by road or air. A decision on the mode of travel is expected to be made soon.
The group of Malayalis comprising eight people from Kerala (Thiruvananthapuram, Kayamkulam and Ernakulam) and 20 members settled in Mumbai were on the Char Dham yatra (pilgrimage of four holy sites).
The group left on August 2 and was supposed to return next week. They took a bus from Haridwar and headed to Gangotri. However, flash floods have washed away the roads, and the group took refuge at a spiritual centre in Bhaironghati.
