Kaduthuruthy: In a move to resolve persistent electricity issues in Kaduthuruthy and nearby panchayats, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has recommended the establishment of a 110kV substation.
The proposal was presented during a meeting convened by the Block Panchayat to address frequent power disruptions and voltage fluctuations. Block Panchayat President Johnson Kottukapally presided over the meeting.
Kaduthuruthy and surrounding panchayats have been experiencing power outages and low-voltage issues for a long time. A similar meeting with KSEB officials had been held earlier following widespread public complaints.
According to KSEB, the existing substation is overloaded, and drawing an additional feeder from it is not feasible. Moreover, laying a feeder line from the Valachira substation across the railway track has also been ruled out. Officials stated that the only sustainable solution is to establish a new 110kV substation in Kaduthuruthy or nearby areas, taking into account the region’s future electricity demands.
Meanwhile, KSEB has sanctioned funds to address power supply issues in Njeezhoor Panchayat. Most of the existing supply lines in the area run through rubber plantations or paddy fields.
Work is currently underway to relocate these lines along the road, and the project is expected to resolve many of the area's power-related problems. Authorities added that a proposal for an additional feeder has also been submitted.
“The Block Panchayat has discussed KSEB’s recommendation. Efforts will be made to identify suitable land for the proposed 110kV substation. The possibility of acquiring land in Njeezhoor Panchayat along the Kaduthuruthy border will be explored. All necessary steps will be taken to address power supply issues in the region,” said Johnson Kottukapally, Block Panchayat President, Kaduthuruthy.
