Thrissur: Former Minister for Agriculture and CPI leader V S Sunil Kumar has demanded an inquiry into alleged irregularities in the Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency’s voter list. He said he had alerted the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) during the general elections about manipulations in the rolls, but the CEC dismissed his claims as baseless, stating that no timely complaint was filed and procedures were followed properly.
Sunil Kumar alleged that voters from Alathur and Tripunithura were added to Thrissur’s list, and claimed chief election agent, K P Rajendran, had lodged formal complaints on March 25, 2024, including names. He accused BJP workers of adding new voters after the draft list’s publication and said Thrissur’s Chief Electoral Officer, former District Collector V R Krishna Teja, may have misled the CEC.
Congress has also alleged bogus votes in Thrissur. DCC president Adv Joseph Tajet claimed 11 votes were added to BJP MP Suresh Gopi’s house, despite no current residents there. KPCC president Sunny Joseph said earlier that concerns were raised and urged the Election Commission for a clear explanation.
Thrissur was the only Lok Sabha seat in Kerala where the BJP won in 2024, with actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi defeating LDF’s Sunil Kumar and UDF’s K Muraleedharan. The CPI leader noted that a case over the alleged manipulations is already pending before the High Court.
