Kozhikode: A 64-year-old woman was pushed off the Sampark Kranti Express shortly after it left Kozhikode railway station and robbed of over ₹8,000 and a mobile phone, police said on Saturday.
The woman, travelling to Thrissur from Panvel, Maharashtra, with her brother, was standing near the train door around 5 am on Friday when a man tried to snatch her bag. When she resisted, he allegedly pushed her off the train, jumped down after her, grabbed the bag, and fled.
The train had just departed the station, but she suffered a head injury in the fall. "The thief came suddenly and tried to snatch my bag. I held on and grabbed his shirt, but he pushed me. I fell onto the tracks," the woman said, adding that another train was approaching and passengers shouted for her to move.
She managed to get clear before it arrived and was taken first to a nearby hospital and then to Kozhikode Medical College, where she was treated and discharged.
A Railway Police officer said the thief appeared to be from outside Kerala. Passengers pulled the emergency chain to stop the train, and a team has been formed to track down the accused.
