Mavelikkara: The Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced Sunil Kumar (46) of Adarsh Bhavan, Ulavukkad, and Sreelatha (53) of Sreerag Bhavanam, Ulavukkad, to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of  Sunil's wife, 36-year-old Ambili, a native of Ulavukkad near Mattappilly in Nooranad.

Delivering the verdict, Judge P G Sreedevi imposed a fine of ₹50,000 each on the convicts. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months’ imprisonment. Of the fine amount, ₹25,000 from each convict is to be awarded to Ambili’s two children. The court has also directed the District Legal Services Authority to make arrangements for the payment of compensation to the children.

The incident occurred at around 10.30 am on May 27, 2018. Sunil Kumar, who worked as a woodcutter, assaulted Ambili to live with his woman friend. Having rendered her unconscious, Sunil Kumar also hanged her using a plastic rope around her neck. He was found guilty of murder, while Sreelatha was convicted of instigating the murder.
