Malappuram: A newly married couple was found dead inside their house at Manalodi, Karuthedath, in Nilambur. The deceased have been identified as Rajesh (23) and his wife Amrutha (18).

Rajesh was discovered hanging inside the house, while Amrutha was later found hanging from the same rope. Initially, Rajesh's body was lying on the floor, and his mother, who is reportedly suffering from mental health issues, placed him on the sofa without realising that her son had died. Police confirmed that Rajesh had taken his own life.

Amrutha, who had been staying at her relatives’ house in Areekode for the past three days to care for an ailing family member, returned home on Saturday morning. Upon seeing Rajesh dead, she too ended her life using the same rope. Police said Amrutha died three hours after Rajesh.

The couple had been in love for over two years and registered their marriage two months ago after Amrutha turned 18. Amrutha is the daughter of Balakrishnan (Kuttan) and Thulasi of Kurunkulam in Chaliyar panchayat.

Both bodies have been shifted to the Manjeri Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched further investigation into the circumstances.
